Is it a controversial statement to say that lead vendors are crooks?

Reason #1: There’s No Exclusivity Between You and the Lead Vendor

We all know how business works. You scratch my back, I scratch yours. But what if the person who’s scratching your back is also scratching everyone else’s back?

That’s not how it’s supposed to be. How can you possibly get any positive ROI when your leads were sold to others before you and will continue to be sold to others in the future as well?

Reason #2: The Big Brokers Get All the Best Leads

No offense to real estate agents working for big corporations. There’s nothing wrong with big companies.

But if you’re the little guy, you’re never going to get the good leads, because the fact is you can’t afford them. Lead vendors are always going to save the premium leads for the big spenders. Unless you’re willing to fork over enormous amounts of money, you’re going to get nothing but leftovers and scraps.

But it doesn’t need to be that way! It’s cheaper and more effective to attract your clients yourself.

Reason #3: You’re Better Off Picking Random Numbers from the Phone Book

Lead vendors are trying to sell you crappy leads. Plain and simple.

They are people who have been hounded and chased down by agent after agent and by the time you get their number they’ve more than likely had enough.

You would literally be better off taking a phone book and choosing a random number. At least that person might not have their information in some lead vendor’s database who is selling them out to every Tom, Dick and Harry on the street.

Reason #4: The Leads You Attract to Yourself are Better in Every Possible Way

Leads aren’t stick people or puppets.

You can’t make them say or do anything they don’t want to do.

That’s the mentality behind buying leads, though. Those people are nothing but numbers to those lead vendors. They sell their information to anyone who’s willing to pay.

However, if you reverse engineer that process, and find a way for clients to come to you instead of you to them, you’ll start doing business on your terms.

When you view leads as people instead of a commodity to be bought and sold they will do the same for you, and you’ll be a friend to them instead of a nuisance. That’s what makes business easy and fun to do.
